SacPD Academy – Introducing Recruit Sullivan
This an another installment of the SacPD Academy series which is following four recruits through the academy.
Class 06-BR-02 entered the Academy on November 14, 2006, and will graduate on April 26, 2007.
This entry was provided by Recruit Phetsvan Sullivan.
Hello. My name is Phetsvan “Mimi” Sullivan and I am a recruit from the class of 06-BR-02. Five weeks have gone by and I find myself acclimatized to cadet life at the academy. The experience so far has been a blast and I am psyched to see what is coming up. I didn’t however, always feel this way. The first two weeks I had a bumpy start. Nothing seemed to be going right for me. Not only did I ruin my uniforms, I was having a hard time relying on other recruits. It was especially hard for me because in the Marines, others were relying on me for help. I went from auditing and inspecting fellow Marines to now, counting on the recruit next to me to check me over. The roles have completely reversed and it was hard to make the adjustment. It didn’t take long for me to realize that I can not do this by myself.
For the last two weeks, our class has really been working together on teamwork and teambuilding. While other squads went out this weekend and participated in activities such as teambuilding at a local gym and shooting off rounds at the range, our squad (Squad 3) and Squad 1 met at Giovanni’s for pizza. It was nice to socialize with other recruits and their families outside of the academy. By going out on our own free time and getting to know each other, I truly feel that we are starting to come together as a unit. The amount of motivation is so intensive. I look around the room each day, and I always feel inspired by another recruit to march on.
Thank you,
Recruit Sullivan, P.
