SacPD Academy – Tu at Five Weeks

This another installment of the SacPD Academy series which is following four recruits through the academy.

Week 5 was a blast. We are starting to spend more time in our PT gear and less in our regular uniform, and it feels GREAT. We do a lot of cool things in PT, and every day is different. Instead of your average boring workout, we spend our time swinging kettlebells, jumping rope, lifting weights, and doing dynamic footwork drills. By the end of each PT session, I am usually drenched in sweat and gasping for air, but I look forward to it every day.

In addition to PT, we had our first Arrest Control and Baton class this week. We learned the basic defensive position, footwork, how to take a fall, and the basics of the roll. We also learned a nice little wrist lock, and spent some time practicing it on each other. I can’t wait to see what kind of skills we will have by the end of the academy. Bad guys, watch out!

Respectfully submitted,
Ken Tu
