Ask Officer Michelle – Question #52
Posted by trixnfuzz
What is the best way to report someone in your community who almost runs you down with their car. Nothing intentional, just speeding in a school zone and not slowing down when a pedestrian enters the crosswalk. I have the make/model of car and license plate number. Should I expect a response?
Thanks!
Dear trixnfuzz,
Having a chronic speeder in your neighborhood can be frustrating and dangerous. For problems like these, you would not get the response you need by calling the police after the violation has occurred since officers usually need to observe the violation in order to issue a citation. If you live in the city of Sacramento, the best thing to do is call the Sacramento Police Department’s Traffic Line at (916) 277-6128. (Please call the proper agency if you live outside Sacramento.) A Traffic Officer will usually return your call within a couple of working days. You can request focused traffic enforcement for your street if the problem seems chronic. Sometimes these violators just need to be caught once in order to curtail or end the problem.
Please keep in mind that due to the number of traffic problems the traffic officers are handling, and their work with other special enforcement teams, it may take a few weeks to respond to individual complaints.
Good luck,
Officer Michelle
