Ask a Recruiter – Question #24

Posted by moveongreg

If I have already applied to be a Police Officer in the past and didn’t pass the background does that preclude me from trying again or in your opinion it wouldn’t be in my or the departments time and effort to try again. Thanks

Dear moveongreg,

I understand your dilemma in wanting to know if you should spend your time and energy applying for a job in a different department. I wish I could give you a definitive answer, however, it is a very difficult question to answer. You are more than welcome to apply with our department. Just because you have been disqualified somewhere else in the past does not automatically disqualify you with the Sacramento Police Department.

Your prior disqualification will obviously play a part in your background process here. But different departments have different hiring standards and what disqualifies you in one place may not affect you in another.

What I do recommend is giving this situation some time and thought. If law enforcement is something you truly have a desire to pursue, then go for it. I wish you the best of luck and if you have any further questions, please feel free to call us on the recruiting line (916) 808-0880.
