Ask Officer Michelle – Question #110
Posted by KateB
I think this is an amazingly useful website. As someone who is looking forward to a career in law enforcement, it is reassuring to know what I will be going through and to have the opportunity to ask questions. For example, I will be going through my oral exam soon with the sacramento police department and was wondering what advice you could give me. I have been on a ride-along, looked up the department’s information, and purchased a darn fine looking business suit. I am terribly nervous about the scenario portion of the exam however, and would love some advice from someone who has successfully completed/passed the things I will be going through. Thank you for your time.
Hello KateB,
It is good to know that you have found our website to be very useful! You are definitely on the right track in preparing for your police officer oral examination with the Sacramento Police Department. The fact that you have been on a ride-along and studied our website in itself will be helpful to you in the oral because you will have something to talk about with some advance knowledge.
As you know, I cannot discuss the oral examination, but I can tell you that there are plenty of resources available to help you prepare for it. Some of those resources include: our website (see “Preparing for a Career as a Police Officer”)http://www.sacpd.org/careers/prepare.htm; talking with police officers in the community; Borders Books has several books that prepare you for police oral interviews; making an appointment to talk with a Recruiter; and SacPD Orientation workshops which are held three times per year (January 5/May 3/September 6, 2008). The Recruiting Unit also has oral examination preparation pamphlets that can be picked up at the Public Safety Center/Hall of Justice at 5770 Freeport Boulevard.
Good luck!
