SacPD Academy 3 – Recruit Diaz at Week 21

Ricardo Diaz blogHello Sacramento! This is Rick reporting back on Week 22. Wow! I can’t believe that the big day (graduation) is getting closer, but there is still plenty of work and testing to be completed. The upcoming weeks will consist of final scenarios, the learning domain final, WSTB final, and the 5-mile run. As for myself, I still have to remediate a couple of things from the ACB final. For me, the academy has been a struggle and this is my fourth time being in this situation. What I have learned throughout the academy though is to NEVER GIVE UP. After several hours of practicing last Thursday and during the weekend I feel confident going into the remediation test.

Speaking of the ACB final, the ACB final was perhaps one of the hardest physical exams. The ACB final was 2½ hours of none stop testing. It consisted of baton work, ground fighting, gun retention, and handcuffing. In addition, a huge portion of the exam was about our physical condition and our “will to survive”….. to NEVER GIVE UP. At the end of the exam every cadet that tested NEVER GAVE UP and continued to fight until we were told to stop. It was a great feeling when we were done because we all stayed in the fight together, we sweat together, and some of us even shed blood together (Chris Wright- you’re a tough guy). I know that we all walked down that hallway with our heads up and with tremendous PRIDE. It was an awesome feeling!

Well Sacramento, next time I report back it will be during the final week, Week 24. These final three weeks are going to be very tough and demanding, but the class of 08-BR-01 will get through it. The one major characteristic that this class has is the “will to survive”…. to NEVER GIVE UP. Until next time Sacramento, have a wonderful week and take care.

Respectfully Submitted,
Recruit Diaz, R.
08-BR-01
