Ask Officer Michelle – Question #155

Posted by cloelo

On evenings and on weekends our new neighbors play their music excessively loud. I don’t want to call 911 because it isn’t an emergency. How can I report this in an anonymous way?

Dear cloelo,

Don’t you just love neighbors like this. First of all, and I don’t mean to sound rude, but have you asked them to turn down their music? If they continue, then you can call our non-emergency number at 264-5471. It is considered a lower priority call, so it may take us awhile to respond during a busy time. Usually on noise complaints, we just contact the people making the noise and ask them to turn the music down. We never tell the parties who called us.

There are noise ordinance laws that start at 10 p.m. On noise complaints, if you want to press charges on the noisy party, you need to sign a citizen’s complaint. We issue a citation and give them a court date for about 3 weeks out. This defeats the purpose of anonymity though.
