Ask Officer Michelle – Question #325

Posted by Grand-pop

On Thursday, Dec 10, at about 7:30 pm I was blocked from traveling south on Riverside at Park Riviera Way (in the Pocket Area) by a Sac PD van and made to turn on Park Riviera. My wife passed by north at about 7 oclock and saw  multiple oiloce cars and yellow tape stretched around an area…I see nothing about this in the Sac PD blotters?? Can anything be given out on this?? Thank You.

Dear Grand-pop,

I believe you are referring to a fatal accident that occurred on Riverside Boulevard that evening. The following is information from a press release that can be found on Sac PD’s website at http://www.sacpd.org/newsroom/releases/liveview.aspx?release_id=200912 10-244

“The Sacramento Police Department is investigating a fatal collision between a pedestrian and a motor vehicle.
On December 10, 2009, at 5:43 p.m., officers responded to Riverside Boulevard and Ashore Way on an accident involving a pedestrian and a motor vehicle.  The pedestrian was transported to the hospital where she later died from her injuries.
Traffic Investigators responded to the scene.  At this time, it appears that two pedestrians were westbound Riverside Boulevard crossing the street outside of the intersection.  The vehicle, a green Jeep Cherokee, was travelling southbound Riverside Boulevard just past Ashore Way when it struck one of the pedestrians.  The deceased was a female White 29-years-old.  The driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene.
The identity of the pedestrian is not being released at this time pending the notification of her next of kin.”

Thank you for writing,

Officer Michelle
