Ask Officer Michelle – Question #331

Posted by annafrank6

Im in college studing criminal justice and wanted to know how many officers are in a unit. There are four teams in a patrol sector north, south , east and west so how many are in each team?

Dear annafrank6,

There are 6 geographical patrol districts in the City, and there are 3 Watches (Day, Mid, and Late).  Due to days-off configurations, there are a minimum of 2 teams for each Watch.  The numbers of persons on an individual team is based on several factors, which include: Calls for service in an area by location and time of day, crime patterns, and officer safety.  There is no specific generic number for the number of officers on any patrol team however, the average is 6-8, and sometimes up to 10 depending on crime patterns and neighborhood needs.

I hopes this answers your question.

Officer Michelle
