Ask A Recruiter – Question #145

Posted by Ksidhu

I’m thinking about becoming a police officer; therefore, I have just one question. How many people actually pass the academy. How difficult is it? What is its curriculm? Do I need an associates degree from a junior college?

Dear Ksidhu

Our academy is 25 weeks long.  It is a difficult academy with academics and physical fitness. The number of recruits we lose each academy varies.  It may be from 10 to 30%  per class.  It other words you must be committed!
Our curriculum is a series of P.O.S.T test and learning domains. A recruit must pass these tests in order to obtain a Basic Post certificate when they graduate.
You must have 60 units in order to become a Sacramento City Police Officer.  Cadets receive 17 units when they graduate from our academy so you do not need an AA degree to join, just 43 units.
