Ask Officer Michelle – Question #499

Posted by Jkarnofsky

As a property manager for a tax credit property. I am hearing a lot of different accusations involving not only residents, but visitors alleging illegal activity. Since I cannot go on accusations alone; I need to have an investigation at my property to document the validity of these accusations. Once confirmed, I need to be able to send the files to my legal team to commence eviction procedures. How do I launch an investigation?

Dear Jkarnofsky,

Not knowing what your specific problems entail, I can give you a list of options based upon frequently known complaints:

If they are drug related, and your complex is in the city limits, you can call our Narcotics tip line at 808-5796. You can leave your information on the message, and it will be passed to an officer to investigate further.

If the complaints involve animals causing a hazard or nuisance, call 311 and ask for an Animal Control Officer.

If your complaints involve children or suspected child abuse, you can call Child Protective Services at 875-5437.

If your issues include gang problems, you can call 808-0332.

For issues involving stolen property and or calls, call our Investigations Division at 808-0650.

I think that just about covers it. If you have any questions about the eviction process, go to www.dca.ca.gov/publications/landlordbook.

I hope I have been able to lead you in the right direction.

Officer Michelle
