Ask A Recruiter – Question #218

Posted by building86

What is the policy for marijuana, ectasy, and cocaine?

I have been convicted of simple battery and I wont be able to have a gun for ten years. Will I be able to join the police academy?

Is there a late night shift?

Dear building86,

The use of illegal substances prior to employment with our Department is examined on a case-by-case basis.  Prior use of illegal substances is not an automatic disqualifier.  Automatic disqualifiers include felony convictions of any type, dishonesty and convictions which would prohibit your right to possess a firearm.  Those standards apply for both the non-affiliate academy and for employment with our Department.

The Sacramento Police Department provides law enforcement services 24/7/365.  Those who prefer late night shifts are easily accommodated.

We are not hiring, but this website show various agencies that are: http://post.ca.gov/law-enforcement-jobs.aspx

Thanks for writing,
