Ask Officer Michelle – Question #519

Posted by kitmusic2

How do I report a person who has multiple license suspensions, and continues to drive a vehicle without proper licenses?

Dear kitmusic2,

The best thing you can do is to call the police agency in the jurisdiction where the suspended driver lives. If it is in the county, you could call the California Highway Patrol. They do most of the traffic enforcement in the county. If the offender lives in the city of Sacramento, call the Sacramento Police Department non-emergency number at 916-264-5471 and give the dispatcher the information. The dispatcher could then relay the information to the proper district sergeant or officer.

The officer would then confirm that the person in fact does have a suspended license. If the officer observes the person driving, they can stop the vehicle and assess the situation.

A lot of people don’t understand that having a driver’s license is a privilege and not a right. Thank you for your post.

Office Michelle
