Hello,
I would like to file a report of a crime online that I believe would fall under the category of “forgery” or “fraud.” There doesn’t seem to be an appropriate category to file said crime under. Is there an “other” section, or what are my options?
Dear jsopkins,
Forgery is basically an intent to defraud. Forgery can also constitute illegal counterfeiting, or attempting to pass a false document as authentic, or using a fictitious signature of another to pass off as your own. Read 470 of the California Penal Code section which spells out forgery.
There are also several other penal code sections in the 500 series involving defrauding. It becomes clearer when you read each of the sections for reporting purposes.
