Ask A Recruiter – Question #235

Posted by Adrian

Hello, I was recently informed by a friend that in order to work for the Sacramento Police Department you have to attend only the Sacramento Police Academy. Is this true? Or could I attend say for example the Sacramento Sheriff’s academy and get hired with Sacramento Police if there were any openings.

Thank you

Dear Adrian,

You can attend any academy you would like. You have to apply like everyone else and go through the same testing process that all applicants go through. The benefit of going though the Sacramento police academy is that you are basically on a 24-week job interview. At the end of the academy, the academy staff can either recommend you to the hiring authorities or not. If you attend the sheriffs academy, you will be attending a very good academy. The hiring process remains the same as everyone else.
