Ask A Recruiter – Question #236

Posted by greez

I would like more information on how to apply for a police recruit with the City of Sacramento. I do not currently have a POST basic certification, I am relatively new to the process for a potential career in law enforcement. I would like to obtain a position within law enforcement within the next year. Any information would be helpful. I am prior military also. Thank you!

Dear greez,

The best place to start is by reading up on our requirements at http://www.sacpd.org/inside/join/careers/preparing/.

This will tell you the basic requirements for hiring at Sac PD including education needed, physical fitness expectations, and disqualifiers.

It’s always recommended to go on at least one ride-along, choosing different shifts to see what it’s like to be an officer.

You can find a ride-along form at http://www.sacpd.org/getinvolved/ridealong/

There are no preference points given for military, but military experience can be helpful in the academy and on the job.

We are not currently accepting applications, but expect to open the application process again in January, so watch for it on the City’s website.

Good luck,

Sacramento Police Academy
