Ask A Recruiter – Question #241

Posted by lopez_usmc

Hey I’m ex-military U.S Marines to be exact, and I was thinking about applying to the Sac PD but I had a few questions. I was reading about the requirements and everything I have to do and go through in order to become a police officer I read that i would have to go through the 24 week course/bootcamp the thing with that is i read that being prior military i wouldn’t have to go through that 24 weeks course I’m wondering if that is true or not

Dear Lopez,

Thank you for your question regarding the 24 week course/bootcamp.  The Sacramento Police Academy has a 24-week mandatory training program that is required by P.O.S.T. (governing body of law enforcement in California). The 24 weeks are a training program to become a peace officer.  There are legal obligations as well as local and state laws that are taught.

Although we are certainly appreciative of your military time and commitment, it does not qualify you for any type of shortened academy training or standards of training.
