Ask Officer Michelle – Question #558

Posted by janjer1

Sac City School District is planning on closing eleven elementary schools. From the Sacramento Police Department perspective, what does closing a school mean to a community. What are the probable effects in terms of crime and what is the department’s position on closing schools?

Dear janjer1,

The Sacramento Police Department takes the education and safety of our youth seriously.   The Police Department is deeply invested and committed to elementary school level children through our Kops and Kids program and the Sacramento Police Activities League.  We hope that there are no negative impacts to the community in the event these schools close. Thank you for your post.

Officer Michelle
