Ask Officer Michelle – Question #336

Posted by annl

My 19 year old son received a fix it ticket for riding his bike without brakes in the city of Sacramento. His brakes are fixed, but we haven’t been able to find out where he needs to go to get the ticket taken care of. He has gone to the DMV, and they sent him to the court house. No help from either department. Where does he need to go? Thank for any help that you can give us?

Dear annl,

The procedure for fix-it tickets for bikes would be the same as for motor vehicles. You fix what needs to be fixed, present the bike to an officer, and have the officer sign the back of the ticket verifying that the bike has been fixed. The security officers at the Public Safety Administration Building at 5770 Freeport Blvd. can sign off on tickets between the hours of 8 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.  If your son sees an available officer on the street, he can also get the ticket signed off by that officer.  Then send the ticket through the mail to the address on the back or you may also go to the traffic court address located on the back of the citation to drop it off in person. They usually require an administrative fee as well. Good luck!

Officer Michelle
